Richard Fairhurst released his first album – The
Hungry Ants – at the age of 19 on the Babel label, and has proceeded over the
years to release further innovative works, many of which can be found in the
606 online store. This is Fairhurst’s first album with his Triptych group, and
his first piano-trio album. Jasper Hoiby joins him on bass – best known for his
Phronesis trio – as does American drummer Chris Vatalaro.

Asaf Sirkis - Inner Noise

Led by drummer Asaf Sirkis, with Steve Lodder on
church organ and Mike Outram on electric guitar, this is a rock-jazz fusion
album that pushes the boundaries of genre with theatrical intent. The music was
originally commissioned by the department of the arts of the Tel Aviv City
Council, allowing Sirkis to tour his work around Israel from 1997 to 1998.
After moving to London in the late nineties he joined Gilad Atzmon’s Orient
House Express, which eventually led to the formation of his own ensemble; The Inner
Noise. This trio’s self-titled album is credited as having created their own
sub-genre; gothic jazz – an apt name considering the sacred organ sounds and
setting.

sacred and celestial on their debut album, Inner Noise, the result a caldron of
church-organ textures, electric guitar noodling, and “kaleidoscopic percussive
skills”. Such musical brooding has continued on to the second Inner Noise
album, We Are Falling, and this time Sirkis’ influences seem to be other
unearthly entities.
