Right from the opening outburst of the precise, bluesy bluster of Mornington Lockett's excellent tenor solo hurtling upwards over the propulsion of drummer-leader Martin Drew's irresistible hi-hat snaps, you know what a superb album you are about to enjoy. "It's irresistible, no matter what your taste in jazz.” The Guardian

Mornington Lockett suggested putting a band together to play the music of The Jazz Couriers who were together from April 1957 to August 1959. This Volume 2 CD recorded in July 2002 underlines the excitement, virtuosity, and cohesiveness of "Celebrating The Jazz Couriers".
"The balance of this quintet really cannot be faulted... It swings, and swings hard: and that's what the Couriers were about.” The Independent

Pat Crumly - Weaver of Dreams
|
Our Price: £10.79 Inc VAT
|
|
|

Up until his untimely passing in late 2008 the late, great
British saxophonist Pat Crumly had been playing regularly at the 606. This
album, Weaver of Dreams, represents his most recent work within a Quartet
setting, and it is a shining example of his unique style. He is joined by
three of the most well-regarded musicians in the British jazz scene; Nick
Weldon on piano, Tim Wells on double bass and Mark Fletcher on drums. In the
original liner notes to this album Crumly wrote:
“I must say that it is a great pleasure to work with
this group of musicians; the band has a unique dynamic which is pervaded by
humour, inventive musicality and a special intensity.”
Weaver of Dreams
captures these traits perfectly, and offers some of Crumlys most rewarding recorded
music.
"Whichever way you cut it, the music here will really grow on you." Brian Priestley - Jazz: The Rough Guide

Pat Crumly - Third World Sketches
|
Our Price: £10.79 Inc VAT
|
|
|

This set of six musical sketches, written by the
late, great British saxophonist Pat Crumly, were recorded way back in 1984 with
the aid of funds from the Arts Council of Great Britain and the Greater London
Arts Association. Prior to engaging with the project Crumly immersed himself in
the harrowing environment of the Third World via in-depth reading and
travelling throughout Africa and the Middle East. With his natural interest in
ethnic music and culture, and his individual style and passion for jazz, Crumly
created an album that draws the listener in to his own sound world, captivating
and informing.
"Whenever Crumly played at the Ronnie Scott Club, Scott would join the audience to listen, absorbed" Steve Voce - The Independent

Pat Crumly - Behind The Mask
|
Our Price: £10.79 Inc VAT
|
|
|

Up
until his untimely passing in late 2008 the late, great British saxophonist Pat
Crumly had been playing regularly at the 606. This album from 1992, recorded at The 606 Club, is an
enticing mix of re-worked standards and Crumly’s own compositions. The quote
below, from British jazz legend Ronnie Scott, should cement in your mind what a
powerful jazz figure Crumly was:
“Pat Crumly is one of the saxophone players in this
country that I most admire. He plays tenor, alto and soprano equally well and
he is an impressive flautist and no mean composer. He seems at home in any
context – I’ve heard him play rock music as well as standard tunes and ballads
with emotion and feeling. He plays melodically without any of the
flavour-of-the-month pseudo hip noises and pyrotechnics that pass for music too
often these days. He is a jazz musician.”
Ronnie Scott – July 1992

Pat Crumly - Flamingo
|
Our Price: £10.79 Inc VAT

|

Up until his untimely passing in late 2008 the
late, great British saxophonist Pat Crumly had been playing regularly at the
606. On Flamingo, his second Spotlite CD release, Crumly offers the listener
considerable variety, with three tunes featuring the additional horns of Guy
Barker (trumpet) and Richard Edwards (Trombone), including the title-track
arranged by Charlie Mingus. The enjoyable and technically impressive playing –
which bears traces of Adderley and Pepper, alongside more recent touches – exhibits
a real feel for the modern mainstream.

Hamish Stuart - Real Live
|
Our Price: £10.79 Inc VAT
|
|
|

What takes Robbie Williams, Cher, Tom Jones, Bonnie Raitt and numerous other celebs, musicians and a hard core regular crowd to that basement club in Chelsea, the 606, once a month?
Answer: The Hamish Stuart Band!
Recorded over 2 nights in February 2000, "Real Live" takes us on a funky, melodic and soulful journey from '72 to 2000. The band contains some of the hottest, most in-demand players in the UK - Snake Davis (saxes), Ian Thomas (drums), Steve Pearce (bass), Jody Linscott (percussion), Andy Wallace (keyboards) and Adam Phillips (guitar). A great ensemble where everybody gets a chance to shine, like Adam and Ian do back to back on Person to Person, Steve already having made his statement on the intro, Jody adding beautiful colours here and there and Andy and Snake doing the solo honours on Work to Do and Reach You.

Connie Lush - Blues Shouter
|
Our Price: £10.79 Inc VAT
|
|
|

Connie Lush is widely recognised as one of the finest blues singers that the United Kingdom has ever produced.
That
indisputable fact was acknowledged when she was voted Best UK Female
Vocalist by readers of Blues In Britain for 5 separate years, earning a
richly deserved place in the Gallery of the Greats.
She is
also increasingly recognised on the continent, particularly in France,
where she was honoured in the French Blues Trophies awards as European
Singer of the Year for 2002. There are no separate awards for male &
female singers in the European category, so Connie defeated all
challengers.
It is
less appreciated that Connie’s musical talents go beyond singing. She is
a highly accomplished songwriter, confirmed by many excellent
self-penned songs that form the content of her live & recorded
repertoire. She has also written TV themes and featured as a DJ on Jazz
FM.
